Legacy

No head in the clouds
You roll yours around in evil burrows
Coming up only to vomit lines of tired hatred.
There is disillusion that I birthed you
And then there’s not
As I suck in the sad similarities, the hardened lessons, the identical betrayals
Sleep comes burdensome to all within your energy
Including you.
By morning I am on edge but open
Another person you say you watched last night
Do those things
Act that way
Say those words.
I understand, I say, I’ve been there.
You want to forget what cannot be forgotten.
This cannot become repetitive trivia
Your awareness and apology are big, definitely heard.
I exhale when you are gone
I am alone
The gulps, gasps, and wails flood the car.
It’s time for the real work now.
