Dredging the Bottom

October 17, 2013

She had not hit bottom just yet. Katerina felt as though she were being used to dredge the depths of a great body of water. She wished she could simply settle on the bottom. After lying down without sleeping for the fourth time that day, her thoughts rounded on her frustration at not being able to sleep for days. Every bit of her body ached especially when she breathed. Maybe Babushka was right when she said Katerina was like her dollhouse dolls. Maybe there was a giant playing with her; it sure made sense to her at that moment.
