A Sea of the Past
Dropping pieces of yesterday
I need to lighten my load
Seagulls flock from all around
To see if my past is tasty
All they find are shells of a life
Once lived, once loved, now gone.
Tossing pieces of yesterday
Means leaving an open door
To what could become a world of delight
Something I have not known.
Closing the door to a moment ago
I walk on uncharted paths
As a hiker of life who gets lost with a map
There are worse places I could be.
Throwing pieces of yesterday
Into the ocean froth
Hope gently squeezed on the sand.
Time for taking new steps forward
Unencumbered by crusty lives.
Waiting serves no one,
Time to move now
And hold the present by the hand.
