Shoulder

July 25, 2011

May I borrow a shoulder?

It’s a place to lay my head

It’s where I hide my eyes

It’s where I drop my sorrows

When they’re making me too blind.

The top is much too hard,

The crook is where it’s at

It’s almost on the chest, that’s it

I’ll be there just a bit.

I will not need it long

I’m sure this thing will pass

It came up of a sudden

From somewhere circling round

A sudden turn in mood

Brings a trend of brooding

The abruptness of its coming

A special note from nowhere

I need a place to let it go.

Tears derived from voids

A chest full of lamenting

No reasoning would satisfy investigation.

Would you lend your shoulder?

The one that is so soft and dark

The one that gives me privacy

The one that soothes my heart.
